Receiving On Site Payments Free

By Lucas Heijn

Running an internet business from home or anywhere requires being able to receive payments on line. For many this may seem like a problem. It is actually easy and painless. You can set up a payment processor at no cost, but still have a reliable and secure credit card payment method.

Our focus is on:

Where to go for reliable, secure and cost effective payments processors

How to install and position it in a web page.

The free payment processor is PayPal. When I say it is free I mean that it is free to join and use their system. There is a small fee for each sale you make. You will need to check this out for yourself. Now go to PayPal.com and open a free account. You will be asked for credit card details and you will need to verify your identity. PayPal is a very secure system and very safe way to receive payments.

The first thing you will need to do is set up your download page. You will need the URL of this page in setting up the payment button. This the URL that your customers will be sent to after a successful payment has been made.

Now to creating your payment button. Log into your PayPal account and look for "Merchant Tools". This will open up a choice of "Shopping Cart", "Pay Now Buttons" or "Subscriptions or recurring Payments"

The shopping cart allows for multiple purchases to be made before the customer goes to the checkout and pays.

Buy Now Buttons are used on sites where the sales page offers just one item. There are no choices to be made, only to buy the product on offer. This button will send the customer directly to PayPal to finalize the transaction.

Subscription and recurring payments work the same way as the buy now button as there is only one product on offer. This product has recurring payments. This could be a hosting account that is paid monthly. You can set a cheaper trial period and then recurring payments at the usual rate. You can also set how often the recurring payment needs to be made, weekly, monthly, yearly or any setting you choose.

Once you fill in the details of the product, PayPal produces an encrypted script you will need to install on the site where you want the button to appear.

In Dreamweaver or any HTML editor, go to where you want the button to appear and create a table. Make sure the cursor is in the table and center it. Now while the cursor is in the center of the table switch to code. You should now see the cursor flashing in the code. This is inside the table you created. While your cursor is flashing here, click on edit at the top of the screen and choose paste from the drop down options. You have now inserted the code and the button will appear where you wanted it to.

Switch to browser view and see how it will look on the internet. Make whatever adjustments you need and you are done.

That's it! You have set up a page to take payments.
