Business Networking International Scam Review, Scam or Legit

By George L. Kenney

BNI or Business Referral Networking is the largest business referral organization in the world. Chapters are structures so that there is only one person representing each business profession. As someone who has been involved with BNI South Florida in the past, I thought I'd share some of my knowledge of BNI in order to assist you in making a decision about the organization.

Business Networking International or BNI started in California in the mid 1980's. It was founded by Dr. Ivan Misner, who is still the Chairman. The main theme of BNI is "givers gain". Through the years the organization has grown from it California roots to an international organization.

What's it all about?

Whether you join an existing chapter or would like to start one of your own, the main focus is twofold. First, you'll want to be aware of, and pass referrals to, other members of your chapter. And you'll also want to actively recruit new members on a continuous basis.

Members generally pass a minimum of one referral per week. If for some reason you don't have a referral, bringing a visitor is acceptable. If you have neither a referral or a visitor, you are expected to give a testimonial about a member of the chapter you've had business dealings with.

How can you benefit from membership?

You benefit when you pass referrals because the people receiving those referrals will feel an obligation to return the favor. Think of it this way, how do you feel when you receive over the holidays and you don't have one to return to the person who gave it to you. Same thing goes for business referrals.

You'll want to always be bringing in new members. The strength of the chapter is the size because you will lose some members on a continuous basis. And don't forget, the more members, the more referrals.

In Conclusion

Business Networking International is a great concept and a well structured organization. Some have problems because some chapter member's desire to go strictly by the rules. Others benefit greatly by sticking pretty much to them. One member from each business profession is a strength.

A few things you might want to keep in mind. BNI does not allow its members to join other networking groups with the structure of one person representing each profession. And also, even though BNI is a large MLM organization, its frowned upon to represent an MLM or similar business opportunity, only its products.
