Outdated SEO Link Building Strategies in a Rapid Industry

By Julie Johnson

There are enormous numbers of strategies that SEOs and link builders have access to, but the best ones are the less used ones. You will get a better return on your time and money by putting to use the proven, underused methods, as well as more creative ones.

Go back to the basics. The classic form of link building has always been the personalized note or phone call to the webmaster to the site on which you'd like a link. This has fallen out of favor in some circles because it takes time to personalize for each site and to make the case for your inclusion, but it remains one of the most consistently effective techniques.

There has been a lot of importance placed on more manual aspects of link building- an instance of this would be directory submissions. Large amounts of automated submissions are simple, but this is the problem. If something is too easy, it's effectiveness probably equals it. If an SEO highly recommends this, you can guess that their ways are not current. This is not dismissing the usefulness of a small amount of relevant directories, but not to use them as a universal answer.

You link building strategy should be Web 2.0-wise. All link builders would optimally like to have someone else take care of the more repetitious jobs in link building. Using "link bait" is a good way. The term refers to writing articles intentionally to collect links. You should write about eye catching stories, hot topics, and incorporate video that people would want to link to.

Don't be fooled by the old school antics to link building. Use your creativity and don't listen to the myths, you will be handsomely rewarded.
