Linkbaiting is a Good Way to Get Links

By Ryan Kane

When one considers link building, you probably think of constant form submissions and emails. But, there are other options, and they aren't all trying to pawn things off on others. Instead, it involves luring other sites to come to you. Of course, link baiting can't be the sole means of link building, but it can do some of the work for you. Linkbaiting also happens to be a very natural, and easy, method of link building.

The term of linkbaiting seems like it is pretty new, but the concept actually started way back when the first site made a hyperlink because of interesting content on another site. If your site contains such information, you will eventually have links to you. Depending on the linkability of that content, it will begin to spread to other sites.

Best Linkbaiting Techniques and Strategies: In a perfect world, your website would be creating tons of interesting content without any extra effort on your part. This is hard in some industries, however (there's only so many people who will link to your article on kitchen sinks, for example). The trick is to frame your article in an interesting and inherently "linkable' manner, above all making sure you create a catchy headline that draws in the reader. As opposed to normal headlines like "Various Options When Buying Kitchen Sinks," a headline created with link baiting in mind might be called "8 Ways to Save Money on Stainless Steel Sinks."

Using a numbered list in your headline is a great idea. Another popular one is using a "how to" format. This makes the reader feel that they have stumbled on easy, quick to read content. It is good to incorporate something that claims to save money. The first instinct is to be broader, as to attract more people, but the opposite is truer.

Submitting Your Article and (Catchy) Headline: Once your article is written and added to your web site, your job is to publicize the link and headline. Social bookmarking sites like Digg, Propeller, and Mixx offer easy article submission and are great outlets for getting your link into the wider Internet. When submitted to this site, sites with interesting articles can get huge boosts in traffic in a matter of hours. With great articles, catchy headlines, and consistent article submission, your web site will be getting new links in no time!
